Blood Red Prints

Would a bloodthirsty monster be drawn to the red of paint as well as blood?

Of course, vampires and ghouls and such are pure fantasy. Werecats—needing to fuel their nocturnal transformations with something fresh and red—are still further distant from fact.

Even if supernatural predators were real, they should be able to smell the difference between paint and blood. Shouldn’t they?

In a story, I imagine that they’d turn especially savage if they discovered that the enticing red splash they’d spotted was merely pigment meant for a crumbling old house. Who knows what hungry and frustrated beasts would do to the first living thing they saw?

But we mustn’t mistake myth for reality. All I’ve found after painting were the prints of ordinary creatures padding through ordinary paint. These aren’t signs of supernatural monsters tracking blood.

They can’t be.
