Claw of the Basement Beast

There is no clawed hand clutching at my basement door.

Prior to arrival, the plumber wanted photos showing the access to the water heater. Upon receiving this shot, he wrote back, “IS THAT A HAND OR A GIANT SPIDER?”

While I have spotted the occasional black widow down there, I’ve not known them to grow unusually large, nor act too terribly aggressive.

I suspect that what the camera caught was only a few branches of the many invasive plant species which constantly threaten to overtake the grounds. They worm their way around the doors and into the walls, where they grow pale and stiff for lack of sun and nutrients. Some of these weeds like to wrap around one’s limbs and slice into the flesh, but I wouldn’t call them claws.
